Sandhu traps gold with meet record at Commonwealth Shooting

New Delhi, Feb 24 India's winning spree in the Commonwealth Shootimg Championships continued as the home shooters grabbed three golds with trap shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu setting a meet record at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range here Wednesday.

New Delhi, Feb 24 (IANS) India's winning spree in the Commonwealth Shootimg Championships continued as the home shooters grabbed three golds with trap shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu setting a meet record at the Dr. Karni Singh Shooting Range here Wednesday.

Sandhu set a meet record in the men's trap individual event scoring 146 points, also his personal best and pocketed the gold. England's Aaron Heading took the silver scoring 143 points, closely followed by Australia's Adam Vella who scored a point less and took the bronze.

The second gold came from 17-year-old Neha Sapte in the women's 10 meter air rifle event. Neha, who incidentally has to appear for her Class XII board exam Thursday, was all smiles after she grabbed gold in a nail biting finish with a score of 496.1 points.

Ratna Sharmin Akhter of Bangladesh barely managed to avoid a tie with Australia's Robyn Nus Van. Ratna's total score of 494.5 points earned her the silver while Robyn Nus Van's 494.2 got her the bronze.

Indians swept all three medals in the men's 25m Center Fire Pistol individual event. Vijay Kumar again took the first podium place for his 580 points. Mahender Singh took the silver for his 568 points while Viraj Singh took the bronze for his 567 points.
