Rescue centre near Tirupati inspires true animal care

Alipiri (Tirupati) (Andhra Pradesh), June 24 (ANI): Sri Venkateshwara Zoological Park at Alipiri near the famed pilgrimage city of Tirupati in Andhra Pradesh has been inspiring everyone by its sense of care for the plight of fauna.

It has opened a care centre for the wild animals, rescued from the circus or trapped on straying into human habitations.

The rescue centre set up in Sri Venkateshwara Zoological Park in Alipiri near Tirupati has turned out to be a boon to scores of aged animals rescued from circus companies as well as those which stray from jungles into human settlements and get trapped.

The animals brought here used to be subjected to cruel treatment. And, this rescue centre has proved to be a great place for such animals.

One can notice that these animals are very much 'at home' here, in terms of space and food apart from medical attention they get when in need.

The rescue centre was set up in the year 2001, with just 10 animals. Today, the centre houses around 67 animals including 37 lions, 28 lionesses, a tiger and panther. And, it has arrangement of in-house veterinary doctors to attend animals at anytime.

"Altogether there are 67 animals, we are taking care of them very nicely. We give eight kilograms of tested meat to the males and six kilograms to the females. The day-night care centres are maintained very well. There are two veterinary doctors taking care of them," said Krishna, the curator of the Sri Venkateshwara Zoological Park in Alipiri.

The staff manning the rescue centre is also quite considerate towards these felines.

The attempt to care for animals in such a way inspires anyone. The staff here hopes that their sense of care for the animals kept here might evoke affection among others to care and be concerned for the majestic and graceful creatures from the animal world.

Similar to this centre at Alipiri, the Forest Department of Rajasthan had also set up a rescue centre in 2001 at Nahargarh near Jaipur, consequent to the ban on the use of performing animals by circus companies. By Ramesh (ANI)
