Srinagar, Sep 24 Unemployed youth of Jammu Kashmir assembled outside the employment exchanges on Thursday to register their names following reports that the State Government is likely to announce an employment policy on December 5.

According to the reports, the State Government has issued a notification asking the unemployed youth to get registered at the nearby employment offices, as they would be announcing a comprehensive package on December 5.

"This is a very good step by the Government that unemployed youth would get some jobs. If this actually happens then we would not roam around for jobs in other states, as we would get jobs in our city only. And we are very thankful to the Government that they have taken out such scheme," said Imtiyaz Ahmad, unemployed youth.

However, a certain educated section complained that even graduates have to take up job as bus conductors, as there are not sufficient job opportunities in the valley.

"Even we want to work somewhere. As you can see the situation here, there is some kind of phobia here. People who are graduates are working as conductors in buses. This should not be the case as outside even 12th pass can work in call centres," said Sajad Ahmad, unemployed educated youth.

There are about four lakh unemployed youth in Jammu and Kashmir, and even officials admitted that due to lack of employment opportunities several youth were getting involved in anti-social activities.

The State Government has also introduced several other income-generating schemes by which soft loans and subsidy would be provided to the unemployed educated youth for setting up business establishments. (ANI)
