New Delhi, Feb 25 (IANS) A city court Thursday denied bail to an accused in an anti-Sikh riot case stating that the allegations levelled against him are serious.

Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Kumar denied bail to Girdhari Lal, one of the accused from the Delhi Cantonment area, stating that the allegations levelled against him are direct and serious in nature.

'I have gone through the statement of complainant Jagdish Kaur. Taking into consideration the gravity of offence and heinousness of offence of crime, the accused is not entitled to bail. The application is thus devoid of merit and hence dismissed,' the court said.

Girdhari Lal is presently in judicial custody.

Lal was produced before a city court Monday after the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) executed the non-bailable warrant (NBW) against him.

The court had Feb 17 issued NBW against Lal, Congress leader Sajjan Kumar and others.

On the earlier hearing, the court had termed the arrest of Girdhari Lal as the catch of a small fish, and said: 'The investigating officers (IO) of the cases are not serious about arresting the accused. Their role is suspicious.'

The CBI had filed a chargesheet against Sajjan Kumar and others in two cases for allegedly instigating mobs after the assassination of then prime minister Indira Gandhi Oct 31, 1984.

Over 3,000 Sikhs across Delhi were killed in the communal frenzy in the days following the assassination.
