Ranchi, Oct 25 One policeman was beaten to death and three other received serious injuries when villagers attacked a police team in Jharkhand.

The incident occurred at Irba village on Saturday, when a police team, not dressed in uniform, from Bihar came to the village to arrest a local who was a suspect in an auto-lifting case.

As police returned after nabbing the accused, a bunch of villagers mobbed and beat them severely.

"We went there to arrest a local named Naushad in connection with an auto-lifting case. We received information that Naushad is involved in a case and we arrested him. When we were returning, the villagers surrounded us and attacked," said Surendra Rai, a sub-inspector with the Bihar Police.

The injured police personnel were admitted to the Rajendra Medical College Hospital for treatment.

Police began an investigation into the incident and launched a manhunt to nab the culprits. (ANI)
