Ludhiana, Sept 26 Health department officials of Ludhiana raided an oil-manufacturing unit on Saturday, seizing over 60,000 litres of suspected adulterated oil.

Maninder Singh, Chief Medical Officer, health department who led the raid, said that they had a suspicion that the factory named Hansraj Vidhyasagar had been carrying out this trade for a long time.

The officials seized over 45,000 litres of palm oil, 8000 litres of mustard oil and around 7,000 litres of soybean oil.

The bottles seized had label covers of different companies.

"We came to know that this factory was making oil or oil was being filled here. Hence, we raided it today. We found labels of soybean stuck over tins containing palm oil and mustard oil. We seized around 60,000 litres of oil," said Maninder Singh.

However Surinder Kumar, owner of the firm, denied his involvement in carrying out illegal trade.

"We buy empty tins from the market and stick our labels on it. Around 100-125 litres oil, which might have fallen on the ground, was collected in tins. The oil here is not at all adulterated," said Surinder Kumar.

The police have collected samples for investigations and lodged an FIR against Surinder Kumar. (ANI)
