New Delhi, Apr 27 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) General Secretary Arun Jaitley on Monday rejected demands for the resignation of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, saying that the Supreme Court has only asked the Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe certain allegations.

"There is nothing against Modi. No enquiry has named him," Jaitley told reporters here.

When asked whether Modi would resign after the SC directions, Jaitley said since the matter was pending before the apex court, the party would not like to say anything more on the issue.

The BJP leader also criticized rival parties for raking up the issue during the elections.

"There had been a convention to raise the Gujarat issue ahead of elections. Just before the Bihar elections, Lalu Prasad released the Banerjee committee report," he added.

Earlier in the day, the Supreme Court asked the SIT to probe the role of 64 people, including that of Modi in the post-Godhra riots cases.

The apex court order was passed in response to a petition filed by Congress parliamentarian Ehsaan Jaffery.

The court has asked the SIT to submit the report within three months. (ANI)
