Jaipur, November 27. The Chief Minister, Smt.Vasundhara Raje has requested the Union Minister for Commerce and Industry Shri Kamal Nath to review the policy for the grant of import licenses for marble blocks.
In a letter written to Shri Kamal Nath, the Chief Minister has drawn his attention on the issue of skewed policy of import to select SIL beneficiaries which still remains. She has said that ideally such import licenses should not have confined to few importers and the policy made broad based to include all marble processors by stipulating suitable eligibility criteria based on investment, turn over and processing capacity.
Smt.Raje has said that even the committee on petitions of Lok Sabha in it 31st report presented on 22nd August 2007 also recommended for framing a new policy for the grant of import licenses for marble blocks. She has therefore requested him to have a fresh look at the policy.
Referring to Shri Kamal Nath's earlier letter written on 19th September, 2007 wherein it had been informed that the quota for import of marble had been marginally increased by 10,000 MT. to 1.4 lakh MT. for the current year 2007-08, than the previous year, Smt. Raje had requested him to refer para 3 of the note of import policy of marble attached with her letter written on 5th September, 2007. The Chief Minister has said that the reduced quota of 1.4 MT does not include the unallocated quota of the previous year 2006-07, which was approximately 42,000 MT. She has said that this effectively had not changed the situation as originally notified by DGFT on 26th July, 2007.
