Allahabad, Oct 29 Married women on Thursday performed a symbolic marriage of tulsi plant by the Ganges' riverbanks in Allahabad.

They performed the ritual of marrying tulsi to 'shaligram' by singing hymns, offering prayers and dancing.

"We got tulsi married in a traditional way by doing "aarti", offering "prasad", new clothes and giving all the things of "suhag" which a married woman uses," said Gayatri Devi Sharma, a devotee.

By performing the ritual, married women prayed for the long life of their husbands.

"The way Srikrishna got married with tulsi and the way they enjoyed their companionship, the same way I want the relation should remain between me and my husband. I should always worship my husbands like a god," said Sunita Kapoor, another devotee.

With this ritual, the auspicious marriage season begins in India. (ANI)
