Inferno in IOC fuel depot to continue for another 12 to 24 hours, says Army

Jaipur, Oct 30 Army trying to contol fire at an Indian Oil Corporation fuel depot on the outskirts of Jaipur on Friday said that the raging inferno would continue for another 12 to 24 hours.

M. P. S. Maan, Commander Infantry Brigade, Jaipur, said that specialist teams of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation Limited (ONGC) from several areas would be arriving in Jaipur to help contain the fire.

"As far extinguishing the fire, specialised team from Mathura has come. From Mumbai and from other places are also are coming," said Maan.

Meanwhile, Kuldeep Ranka, District Magistrate, Jaipur, said that all measures are being taken to vacate people from the nearby areas to safer places.

"Mathura team of the IOC had come here. They have come with three fume tenders. And four columns of army are also here. They are also seeing that what help they can provide to the civil administration and what arrangements can be made. As the fire was spreading, we evacuated nearby areas yesterday. Today, those places were rechecked and people were vacated to safer places," said Ranka.

Two villages near the depot were evacuated and power was cut off across the region as a precautionary measure.

The blaze started at the depot in Sitapura industrial area around 7.30 p.m. on Thursday and quickly spread to some adjoining industrial units, with massive flames rising from the area. (ANI)
