Kanpur, Mar 31 (ANI): Congress President Sonia Gandhi said on Monday at a two-day convention of the party activists that communal forces will be not spared, by her party while her son and Amethi MP Rahul Gandhi urged party workers to fight against the scourge of unemployment and underdevelopment.

"Castesism and communalism have made the situation worse in Uttar Pradesh. But we are not satisfied with this and we have to listen to our inner voice," Sonia Gandhi said.

She also emphasized the role of party workers and said no one is above the party.

"In any field, without making the organisation strong, we can't get success. And, the only reason I can think of, is that we have started thinking only about ourselves," she said.

Political and economic resolutions were the main topiics of discussion on the first day of the convention that is being held in the state after 26 years.

Sonia GandhiCongress General Secretary Digvijai Singh said the party is open to work with 'any one who fights communal forces'.

Earlier on Sunday, coming down heavily on Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati, the Congress accused her government of corruption, and demanded a more transparent administration.

"To expect transparency and corruption-free administration from the present Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) Government is useless. Going by the past record of the present Chief Minister Mayawati, it is very much clear how importance was given to corruption in the state. No department is free from corruption," the Congress said.

On the frequent transfer of officials in the State, the party said that ten months "record" number of civil and police officials had been shifted in the past ten months. (ANI)
