Brit Punjabis convicted for selling booze to kids in school uniform

London, May 31 (ANI): Two Brit Punjabis - Rachpal Kaur and Gurvinder Uppal -- have been convicted for selling more than 100 bottles and cans of booze to kids wearing school uniforms.

Cost cutter workers Kaur, 53, and her son Gurvinder, 27, were caught on their own security camera selling Lambrini, cider and lager to children, reports The Sun.

Police were called in after a schoolboy was spotted buying a bottle of brown ale at the store in Winlaton, Gateshead.

Kaur and Uppal, who both live above the store, admitted selling alcohol to underage drinkers.

Kaur was fined 800 pounds with 140 pounds in costs, while Uppal was fined 200 pounds and the same amount of costs.

The shop also had its licence to sell alcohol removed - the first in Gateshead to do so.

Chairman of the magistrates Tony Hewison said: "Having watched the video evidence, we believe it is obvious that a number of those served alcohol were well under the age of 21. Some were in school uniform, and the fact some were served on more than one occasion makes the offences more serious. We can find no excuse for your actions, especially when you had both had training in the Challenge 21 initiative."

"Your punishment would have been worse if you had not pleaded guilty today," he added.

The pair sold 65 bottles of Lambrini, 21 bottles of beer and cider and 42 cans of lager to underage kids or adults buying on their behalf. (ANI)
