Centre provides assistance to Bihar Government to deal with flood situation

New Delhi, Aug 31 (ANI): The Centre has provided all required assistance to the Bihar Government to deal with the flood situation in the State, Home Ministry spokesperson said.

The Government of India has deployed 15 additional Army columns in addition to the existing ten columns. Four additional helicopters have been deployed in addition to the existing five helicopters.

A total of 243 boats and 686 National Defence Reserve Force (NDRF) personnel have been deployed so far. 5767 tents have been dispatched till today and additional 1922 tents are being organized. In addition to four satellite phones already provided, ten more are being provided.

Additional four lakh bottles of drinking water are being sent today by a special train. 18 MTs of plastic sheets, having capacity to accommodate 3,000 families, have also been sent.

In addition to free transportation of relief material, Ministry of Railways have taken some other steps which include nomination of four terminals at Sahrsa, Purnia, Forbes Gunj, Jogbani, Sonbarsa Kachahri for handling the relief material; running of special trains for evacuation of affected people on need basis and setting up of medical and relief camps at (i) Raghopur, (ii) Banmankhi, (iii) Madhepura, (iv) Narpat Gunj, and (v) Budhma. National Crisis Management Committee (NCMC) headed by Cabinet Secretary reviewed the flood situation today.

Ministry of Home Affairs is in constant touch with the State Government and closely monitoring the situation round the clock. (ANI)
