New Delhi, June 24 (IANS) All central government offices and central public sector undertakings in the capital will be closed on Oct 14, the day of closing ceremony of the Commonwealth Games, the union cabinet decided Thursday.

The decision will facilitate the movement of traffic and ensure greater participation of the public in the closing ceremony of the Games, a government statement said after a cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

The opening and closing ceremonies of the Games are scheduled to take place on Oct 3 and 14 respectively at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium.

While October 3 is a Sunday, the closing ceremony is on a Thursday.

Over 100,000 visitors are expected during the Games, for which a whopping Rs.15,000 crore (Rs.150 billion) has been allocated.

The Games will have 17 disciplines to be held at six venue clusters and five stand-alone stadia in this metropolis of 17 million people.
