Mumbai, Maharashtra, (IndiaPRwire.com), Sunil Prem Vyas, known as icon of theatre for youth in Mumbai once left training of Pilot for the passion of Theatre & later there was no turning back. Forming his group ‘Darpan’ at the age of 17 made him the youngest theatre director in Mumbai in 1997.
Ten years old now, Darpan theatre group has staged more than 17 plays covering the genres of family drama, comedy, social, psychological and thrillers written by eminent playwrights like Vijay Tendulkar, Ratnakar Matkari, Manohar Katdhare, K.P. Saxena, Abhiram Bhadkamkar, Mahesh Elkunchwar & Sunil Vyas himself.
Talking about his film ‘The Artist’, Sunil says “It’s a subject never made before with an unusual concept where 2 actors portray 22 characters in a one night story.”
Sunil plays 17 out of them - ranging from a simple Bengali babu to the merciless villain Mahavir Singh who finds his prey in beautiful women. His co-debutant Mamta Bhatia plays 5 characters in the film is also the producer of the film.
In Theatre, one can conquer the art of multitasking with practice. Theatre gives a platform to explore ones talents like Acting/Writing/Directing simultaneously. “The writer/director in me always enhances my acting capabilities on stage. This worked for me in theatre. Now I ‘m trying to explore the same with the beautiful medium of cinema. My idols are Gurudutt, Raj Kapoor, Kishore Kumar, Manoj Kumar. They have proved this… years ago. I’m just trying to follow their footsteps.” with a firm belief says Sunil, who is the writer/director of his film as well.
“Being a creative person one must analyze his mind, heart & soul as to how & with which style of work can one express & satisfy himself. Theatre & Cinema are great platforms to express yourself enhancing your creative skills” states Sunil who is also lead artist in two other films ‘Pathhar- Bezubaan’ & ‘Khhamosh Lakeerien’.
Sunil, though multitasking as actor/writer/director, believes that he is & remains basically and foremost an actor. “I enjoy living different lives. Acting is the only profession in the world which lets you live many different lives in this one single life. The actor in me is never satisfied & always hungry to live another life. I started off as an actor. It’s only the actor in me which inspires me to write & direct” states Sunil.
Talking about difference in theatre & cinema he says that Film is a director’s medium but theatre is absolutely actor’s medium without any intermediates like camera, cut shots, retakes or editing table.
Even though Sunil is moving towards the silver screen he says he can never ever forget his first love- theatre. “Every actor must go through the theatre experience to mould himself into an artist first & then try his luck to be a star.
