New Delhi, Aug 19 (IANS) A Malaysian national involved in credit card cloning was arrested Wednesday and expensive branded products worth thousands of rupees were recovered from him, police said.

The accused has been identified as Sahubar Maina Mohammad, (43) who in association with a Nigerian national, used to clone credit cards.

A police officer told IANS: 'Acting on information provided by the owner of a Spice Mobile outlet at Netaji Subhas Marg, police apprehended the accused when he was trying to buy a mobile phone with a cloned credit card. The accused was posing as a Spanish national.'

During interrogation, it emerged that he was carrying a forged Spanish passport. Sahubar is married and a father of one but did not have a regular well paying job. He was in and out of money and performed several part time jobs.

'Later, he got in touch with Kanchail, a Nigerian national, who said he had access to credit card data and claimed that he could clone credit cards. Both suspects then hatched a plan to earn money through transactions with the cloned cards,' a police officer said.

Police recovered a forged Spanish passport, a genuine Malaysia-issued Indian passport, eight cloned credit cards, eight Indian and international SIM cards, recharge coupons and several expensive branded products worth thousands of rupees from Sahubar.
