Kolkata, Aug 28 (IANS) Railway Minister and Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee Saturday said the proposed Land Acquisition Bill will ensure that land is not acquired forcibly for industry.

She also slammed the West Bengal government for its failure to provide 100 days of work for the poor people.

'We have shown the way through Singur and Nandigram movements against the forcible acquisition of land for industries,' Banerjee said while addressing a rally here.

'The call is the same from Singur to Nandigram, from Lalgarh to Aligarh - against the forcible acquisition of land. The demand that no land should be forcibly acquired should get priority in the proposed Land Acquisition Bill,' Banerjee said.

Banerjee slammed the state government for its ianbility to control the drought situation in the state.

'The poor people in the drought effected areas of the state are suffering. They don't have food to eat. This state government is unable to provide 100 days of work to the poor people. In this state the poor people only get to work for 12 days,' said Banerjee.

The West Bengal government has declared drought in 11 districts of the state earlier this month due to lack of rainfall.
