Chandigarh, Sep 2 (IANS) Former chief minister of Haryana Om Parkash Chautala here Thursday criticised the land acquisition policy followed by the Bhupinder Singh Hooda-led Congress government in the state.

Chautala, who is also the chief of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), the main opposition party in Haryana, accused the government of acquiring fertile land for various development projects and Special Economic Zones (SEZs) instead of infertile wasteland.

'The Congress government has acquired majority of the fertile land, which could successfully yield three bumper crops in a year. It is really surprising as to why they are not acquiring unproductive land for SEZs and other projects,' Chautala told reporters here Thursday.

'There is over 30,000 acres of infertile land lying in Hisar district but they are not at all interested in it,' he added.

Chautala also said that there was no control of the government over the police that led to incidents like arson attack on Dalit families at Mirchpur village.

'Even for the registration of FIRs, people are seen agitating and women are committing suicides outside the office of state police chief,' Chautala said.

Chautala also expressed dissatisfaction over the short period of upcoming monsoon session of Haryana assembly.

'Congress is not interested in hearing the issues relating to the masses. The monsoon session should be of at least one week but the Congress has shortened it as they do not want to discuss their failures,' he added.
