A solo painting and drawing exhibition showcased at recently built Art Gallery of Rajasthan Information Centre, (RIC) Bikaner House New Delhi by Udaipur based artist Dr. Ram Singh Bhati makes us learn that the artist voices society's day to day experiences in multiple dimensions, analysis's its actions reactions critically and commues them to sensitive society through various mediums. Dr. Bhati has sketched Desert flood on canvas under the title 'Barmer Tub aur Ab' with several layers of meaning. The exhibition was inaugurated by Rajasthan's Additional Chief Secretary and Principle Resident Commissioner, Miss Amarjeet Kaur Ahuja. The exhibition dedicated to flood victims of Rajasthan would remain open till 16th October 2006 daily between 10 am to 7 pm.
Thirty artistic paintings showcased at Art Gallery of RIC on one hand depict common life style of desert Barmer's people minutely; on the other hand impact of Nature's wrath in the form of devastating floods and heavy rainfall and its impact on common life is also clearly visible. The two basic instincts first tranquility to live life cheerfully and another desire to survive in adverse circumstances could be traced in the paintings. The attempt of narrating flood hit people's psychology is also appreciable. The paintings include the scenes depicting the feelings of fear, confusion, perplexity during crisis. The efforts to carry child on back for survival, to rush here and there on desert dooms with baggage for rescue is heart touching. The painting of Camel known as 'Desert ship' is usually stranger to water) shown standing in distress over inability to walk through water blocked area is remarkable. The scenes of rescue operations eg distributing relief kits is eye catching. The painting of a person searching his kins dead or alive amidst dead cattles and human bodies stripped mouth makes us feel as if the viewers standing amongst suffers and experiencing the tragedy.
In pre flood scenes 'pani ki kami', 'Purab ro Ahsas', 'Dudharu gai' etc. are realistically depicting the life of Barmer. The paintings are decorated with artistic impressions and the colouring is in accordance with need of the situation. The kids are shown making castles in sand dooms that reminds us of our childhood days. The artist has showcased many public and open space exhibitions to connect common people with Art (Art for life's sake). The exhibition was also organised to help earthquake victims of Kashmir. Bhati has also organised an exhibition at Jawahar Kala Kendra, Jaipur to help flood affected people.
The artist has his origin from root, he likes to be concerned with root and his philosophy resolves around common truth. 'To create an art piece, experiences are essential and experiences rise from actuality. If you want to draw a sketch of Bull cart you will have to ride it on' says Dr. Bhati.
