High-Tech Monitoring Agency

The Government proposes to set up a Centre for Communication Security Research and Monitoring. This was stated by Dr. Shakeel Ahmad, Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology in a written reply to question by Shri Bhartruhari Mahtab in Lok Sabha today.

Dr. Ahmad said that the main objective for setting up the above Centre is to provide mandatory access to law enforcement agencies for intercepting, monitoring and analysis of the activities of the criminal elements and their social networking both proactively, online and through post-analysis of information. He further stated that Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), an autonomous body of the Government of India has been appointed as the nodal agency for implementation of the project. A budget provision of Rs. 50 crores has been provided during 2007-2008 for setting up the above center, he added.
